Our walk starts at the car park at Straw's Bridge, Ilkeston. We first go round a lake and into the Pewit Carr Nature Reserve (previously a golf course). After a short walk along a disused railway line, we cut round another lake. An embankment of a disused railway is then followed to a main road.
After a short road section, we join a path that follows the route of the disused Nutbrook Canal. Look out for signs of the canal which is very overgrown. We then take a path that crosses over to a disused railway. We walk along this track to return to Straw's Bridge.
This walk is part of my Flat 5 Series (about 5 miles and mainly flat). There are no stiles and the paths are well made except for a short section. There will be a drink stop during the walk, so please bring any snacks or drinks you will require during the walk. Estimated driving time from West Bridgford is 30 minutes.
You can join this walk without any booking. After the walk, there is an optional meal at the nearby Newdigate pub in West Hallam. The pub is a short drive from the start point car park. If you wish to join us for the meal, please contact the leader before April 16th. Meals will be ordered once we reach our table.
