Overview

The walk goes down to Calstone Wellington from Small Grains, then rises from Ranscombe Bottom onto Calstone Down and Cherhill Down, using a mixture of permissive paths and footpaths.  It returns using byways and the Roman Road to Baltic Farm and then follows a scenic part of the Wansdyke, and the Wessex Ridgeway, back to Smallgrains.

There is an option for a  shorter walk of 6 miles. This leaves the route at the Roman Road and follows this back to the start.

Given good weather we should have wonderful views.  There are a small number of stiles and one notable up and down.  A stick(s) may be useful as chalk can be slippery when wet.  There may be livestock en route.  Please bring refreshments for 2 stops
