This linear London walk offers real breathing space within the City. Although the island is under rapid development, the clatter is muted by the calm waters of the Thames. Grebes, gulls and people alike enjoy the escape it offers from the frenetic urban forest. There are two very different worlds here and both are very enjoyable.
Along the walk, the Isle of Dogs has plenty of green space on offer with the Sir John McDougal Gardens and Island Gardens and Mudchute farm forms part of our walk as well as the Crossrail Place Roof Garden (stop for lunch). We then continue on to Limehouse Basin Marina walking along the Regent Canal Towpath, passing Ropemakers Fields. There’s lots of fascinating history to uncover too – all shaped by the presence of the mighty Thames. Toilets at Canary Wharf shopping centre and Mudchute Farm.
Lunch: Picnic lunch, although plenty of eateries near (but NOT in) Crossrail Place Roof Gardens. We will stop at Mudchute Farm for coffee and cake.
Train: Canary Wharf (Zone 2) is served by the Jubilee line, Elizabeth line and DLR. Return from Limehouse (Zone 2; Nat Rail and DLR).
