Overview

Enjoy Turneresque seascapes and large skies on a short walk, mostly on hard surfaces, along the coast to finish at Margate. Some steep steps. There is then the opportunity to visit the Turner Contemporary Gallery (free entry). The main exhibition is the work of Ed Clark, a pioneering American abstract artist (see the Turner website for more info). There are other places of interest including the Margate Museum and the Shell Grotto. There will be a coffee and toilet stop during the walk. No toilet at Birchington station.

Lunch: Picnic on the beach or plenty of cafes, pubs, or fish-and-chips in Margate, including cafe in the Turner Gallery building.

Train: St Pancras 10:20; Stratford International 10:27: Arr Birchington station 11.54. Please note Railcards should be valid on this train. Return is from Margate, 2 singles may be cheaper than day return to Margate.
