We use a combination of footpaths, tracks, quiet lanes and a section of the former tramway that took stone from Haytor quarry to canal boats and sea-going ships waiting for their cargo. We shall stay on dry land throughout.
We leave Bovey Tracey through a new housing estate and then onwards to Challabrook Farm, after which we see the first signs of the old tramway which forms the Templer Way. We walk along lanes and cross fields with great views south and north. When we reach Haytor Vale we follow the road for a short distance until the iconic Haytor comes into view and the tramway we left behind appears in front of us. We now follow it back south an east, skirting the edge of Yarner Wood before following a track that provides yet more panoramic views of rolling hills.
If you would like to join this walk, please notify the leader, preferably by email, so that they can inform you of any late changes to arrangements.
