An easy walk along the banks of the Thames from Marlow Lock to Cookham with good views of Winter Hill rising up from the opposite bank. We will have lunch in the attractive village of Cookham which inspired so many of Stanley Spencer's paintings and is home to the gallery dedicated to his work ( £7 or £3.50 with Art Fund Pass). There are plenty of picnic benches near the river or a choice of pubs, cafes and tea rooms in the village. The afternoon route goes along one of the most scenic sections of the Thames Path with lovely views of Clivedon Reach. At Boulters Lock we will have a short refreshment and toilet break on Ray Mill Island before continuing to Maidenhead Bridge where we leave the Thames and walk into the town and along the Green Way to the station.
Elizabeth Line from Paddington to Maidenhead 9.47, Ealing Broadway 9.56, to catch the 10.34 branch-line train to Marlow. Alternatively use the GDR service from Paddinton departing 10.08 and change at Maidenhead.
