From the main street we head towards the A.1. motorway and cross over the footbridge and then make our way over the fields and into Hazel Woods and the grounds of Hazelwood Castle Hotel. We then follow the perimeter road around the hotel to join the long farm track that takes us down to the Lead Church where we will stop for a lunch break. After the break we retrace our steps back to the path, which runs alongside the stream, and follow it before we turn off into Hayton Woods, cross several fields , re-cross the motorway footbridge and back into Aberford. Refreshments after the walk will be at the Arabian Horse P.H.
The walk is quite varied with a mixture of woods, fields, good farm tracks and a small amount of road walking involved. Weather dependant it will possibly be quite wet and muddy in places particularly across some of the fields. The Lead Church situated in the middle of a field, and is quite small , was built in 1150 and is well worth a look inside .
