We are the Pontypool Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Meet at Byefield Lane car park in Abergavenny for a walk along the river to Llanfoist where we will meet those wanting only a 6 mile walk.
We follow the disused Railway line to Govilon and begin the ascent along lanes, a bridleway and through felled woodland to Hill’s Tramroad (can be rough underfoot). We then contour around to the Punchbowl with hopefully great views of the Black Mountains. After our lunch stop we descend fields and lane to the canal and back to the cars.

Note that this walk offers two different meeting places. For those wishing to do the full 8 mile walk, they should meet at the Byefield Lane car park for a 9.30am start. For those wishing to do only 6 miles they should meet at the Llanfoist Crossing, where the first group will join up with them at 10.00 am.
UPDATE: Permission has been given by Abergavenny Garden Centre for us to use their new overflow car park without charge. It has hard surface parking with gates at either end. Follow the sign down towards the garden centre from the Llanfoist Crossing, and their large overflow car park is on the left before you get to the Garden Centre. Walk back up to the road to join the other group.
