This will be a figure of eight walk, two 5-mile walks, afternoon walk starting at 1.00pm.
The morning loop will visit Brisworthy, with its impressive Bronze Age stone circle, Ringmore Down, with a cairn circle and stone row, Ringmore Cottage, Lynch Common, Marchant’s Cross which marked a monastic route to Tavistock, Lovaton, Durrance and return.
In the afternoon, we pass the Wigford Down cross, a fine cist with a retaining circle, Little Dewerstone Tor (not on OS maps) on to the summit of the Dewerstone (now considered to be a neolithic enclosure) with magnificent and extensive views. On the summit there are inscriptions about the Dartmoor poet Carrington. We then descend, including an inclined plane, to Shaugh Bridge where we find the remains of china clay, brick and granite industries. There is then a steepish ascent before we follow the pipeline track along the ridge above the Plym on our return route to Cadover Bridge.
The walk is mainly on good footpaths, tracks, and quiet lanes.
If you would like to join this walk, please notify the leader, preferably by email, so that they can inform you of any late changes to arrangements.
