Overview

We will meet at Mamhead car park and start by walking along the forest trail to the Obelisk for the fine views over the Exe and along the coast to the east, weather permitting. There will be a variety of footpaths, bridleways, woodland and country lanes, some of these crossing the Ashcombe Estate, whose owner brought home a contentious Russian gift in 1945. There are two long and steep descents and two long and steep ascents.

Unfortunately, the nearest pub, at Kennford, would suit those heading back in the Exeter direction but not any of us who live elsewhere. Perhaps we could bring a tipple of choice and sit on the benches with views near the Obelisk once we’ve finished, weather allowing?
