Overview

Head towards Vixen Tor then follow the Grimstone & Sortridge Leat (rocky and can be wet), and on to Merrivale and Hillside using the verge of the B3357. Then use bridleway to Hucken Tor and Daveytown. A long downhill section from Hucken Tor to Ward Bridge to cross the Walkham (rocky track changing into tarmac lane). Then mostly uphill to Sampford Spiney and its old Manor buildings and Church. Back onto the Whitchurch Common, Heckwood Tor where quarrying provided blocks for the Plymouth breakwater, negotiate Beckamoor Water then pass Vixen Tor on route to the cars. Consider it a tough 6.5 miles of moorland paths, tracks and lanes.
