The walk follows alongside parts of East London's more significant waterways. Starting from Tottenham Hale Station we join a section of the Lower Lea, using both its natural course and the late 18th century 'navigation' (canal cut) to explore wetlands, marsh and woodland. We pass through part of Walthamstow Wetlands on a path between reservoirs, to later cross Walthamstow Marshes. After Lea Bridge, we enter the Middlesex Filter Beds, then continue along the River Lea proper, walking close to Hackney Marshes, then follow through Wick woodlands to rejoin the navigation towpath, entering Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. At Carpenters Rd Bridge, we leave the Lea navigation, heading SW along the Hertford Union Canal, branching up into Victoria Park to spend lunchtime close to the cafe, enabling us to purchase drinks and use toilets. Please bring a picnic as cafe likely to be busy. The last 3 miles takes us west along The Regent's Canal through Hackney and Haggerston. As we reach the Islington Tunnel we leave the canal and go up to street level to finish nearby at 'The Angel' tube station.
Meet just outside Tottenham Hale Station. Toilets at station on Platform 2 and 4 of Greater Anglia lines.
Toilets not far from start at Wetlands Centre and also in Victoria Park at lunchtime.
