Attractive, varied countryside within the London Borough of Bromley. From Petts Wood station, we walk through Crofton Wood, skirt Roundabout Wood and ascend Darrick Wood, all interspersed with housing, to reach Farnborough. Lunch is at High Elms Country Park (café, picnic, toilets). There is a steady climb after lunch bringing us to the Wilberforce Oak and commemorative seat, where William Wilberforce and Prime Minister Pitt the Younger discussed a bill to end the slave trade. Then on through Keston Common with its series of ponds, to reach West Wickham Common and Hayes station.
