Departing from Jockey Shield NY 5580 5553 (east of Castle Carrock) at 09:00
Walk will be led by Colin T.
A strenuous walk over some rough trackless terrain in the hinterland of the northern Pennines. A walk for the lovers of birds, bees and vast views (weather permitting).
The walk starts up though old mine workings to Castle Carrock Fell, a small diversion to Carduneth Pike and then over Cumrew Fell. We then turn east to follow New Water, up to Crookburn Pike and the Shelter Cairn. Little and Great Blacklaw Hills are trodden next before the most northern mountain in the Pennines, Cold Fell. We finish with a dash past Gairs, Simmerson Hill and finally Talkin Fell with its multiple cairns.
If the weather is poor the Blacklaw Hills and Cold Fell can be bypassed, when the distance becomes 11.6 miles and 2100 ft of ascent.
