In the footsteps of pick men, poets and a pacifist this linear route explores some of the best views of the Lake District’s second largest lake.
Starting out from Glenridding up the rake to Glenridding Dodd, Heron Crag and Sheffield Pike the route then takes us around the head of Glencoyne valley down to Aira Force and into Gowbarrow Park. Several path options here but we head up Green Hill before descending to Watermillock Church. The last section joins the Ullswater Way for short stretch before ascending Romney’s and Salmonds plantations and finally down to Pooley Bridgei.
Total 12.5 miles 3,200 ft ascent
Meet to car share at Penrith Rugby Club at 8.50am or travel direct to the start point in Pooley Bridge where there are various car parking options.
This is a linear walk and we will catch 508 bus departing 9.20am from Pooley Bridge (outside Pooley Bridge Inn) to Glenridding where we will start walking.
