From Spout Force, where the silver currents leap,
We shun the road's dull chain and heavy dust,
To meander where the Lorton shadows sleep
In Nature’s temple, far from human rust.
Into the Swinside woods, a pine-clad trust,
We pierce the gloom to gain the ridge’s height,
Where Ladyside’s stern brow, by winds august,
Ascends to Hopegill’s crown of soaring light,
Touching the azure hem of Heaven's infinite might.
Swift as a thought, to Grisedale’s peak we fly,
Then down to Hobcarton’s wild and jagged end;
Through Whinlatter’s green forest, where the sigh
Of ancient spirits with the breezes blend.
To the Lord’s Seat our wandering spirits bend,
O’er Broom Fell’s crest and Graystones’ silent stone;
Then down the steep, where crystal streams descend
To Spout Force falls, in music all their own,
To find the waiting car, while day's last light is flown

We shall start from Spout Force car park and meander round the side of Lorton Fell(to avoid the road). Cross over into Swinside plantation and up on to Swinside ridge. Ascend Ladyside Pike and hit the top of Hopegill head. Across to Grisedale Pike and then down to Hobcarton End. Through the forest to Whinlatter Centre. From there a stroll up to Lord's Seat, over to Broom Fell and, finally, Graystones. We finish off with the decent down to Spout Force waterfall itself and to the car park)
