A lovely historic walk, We start at Lifton Village along tracks, green lanes and country lanes. We reach the beautiful 14th century church at Stowford which was later restored in 1874 by Sir George Scott, architect of St Pancras station. The interior woodwork is said to be some of the finest in England and don't forget to see the 1770 sundial over the church door. We walk back to Lifton passing the Gothic Mansion of Hayne rebuilt in 1810. A fairly steepish climb up to the Church, and some muddy and boggy sections underfoot. There is some road walking and on the old A30 road and care needs to be taken. We walk along a section of the Two Castles Way, passing pretty snowdrops and crocuses.
We will stop for coffee at the Stowford Village Hall next to the Church where there are picnic benches and toilets. and there is the option to visit the Strawberry fields Garden Centre cafe for tea and cake afterwards. Text Jenny if you would like to do this walk.
