The morning walk explores the higher, rural parts of Harrow Weald and Stanmore, to include Harrow Weald Common, Bentley Priory Open Space, Stanmore Ponds, Wood Farm Nature Reserve and Stanmore Country Park. At 2 panoramic viewpoints we hope to spot distant landmarks across London, hopefully picking out the shape of the North Downs on a clear day. Picnic lunch will be at a quiet spot beside the tranquil lake in Pear Wood. The afternoon walk descends through the Country Park towards the Edgware direction. Then it becomes paved, more urban, following a 1.5ml safer diversion, (replacing the original route to avoid some ill-defined, hazardous footpaths with major road crossings) passing through the green and wooded Edgwarebury Park, with a brief stop for toilets and our own refreshment. (Small cash only cafe kiosk most likely to be shut on our walk date). The remaining 2.5mls will be along mostly quiet roads to Mill Hill Broadway, where there are plenty of cafes for possible refreshment.
Approx. 4 dropout points with bus links to stations
No Pub or Cafe along route, but many at finish in Mill Hill
No Toilets at Headstone Lane Station or for 7 mls of the walk.
Take plenty of liquid refreshment with you.
Morning walk could be muddy in places with some uneven paths.
