Overview

B WALK DESCRIPTIONThis walk has fine views (on a good day) from the height of the Welcombe Hills and the obelisk and the banks of the river Avon across the flood plain. Starting just north of Stratford upon Avon near Lower Clopton, the route climbs steadily to meet the Monarch’s way in the Welcombe Hills.  Continuing north through fields, woodlands and orchards we reach Cobb’s garden centre for a coffee stop. The route then passes through Snitterfield before turning south east, crossing A46 and A439 and follows the road, (with a short stop) till we reach the River Avon. There is a well used narrow, steep sided, muddy path along side and above the river. After 2 km we leave the river to make our way up to the obelisk with a short stop before descending to Stratford through the country park where the Warwickshire mud, which loves your boots, is hopefully shed on its grassy slopes! Finishing at the leisure centre. Distance 10.5 miles. Total ascent:732ft. 6+ stiles. Walking poles will help in muddy sections! leaves at 9.00 am, but advise walkers to arrive by 8.45 am. Booking is essential for these walks.  The fare is £15.
