A delightful walk starting from our usual Wellow starting point, but going in a loop over to Hinton Charterhouse and then down to the Norton Brook via Cleave Wood. A gentle hill up to Baggridge Farm then back down to Wellow on a quiet road. A bit of climbing in this walk, but interestingly enough, the amount of descent is exactly the same as the ascent!
Cleave Wood is an SSSI, and is a delightful area of Woodland on a chalk slope down to the river. It has a wide range of interesting trees, but is notable for several other rare species, including the Duke of Burgundy butterfly, the Fly Orchid, and Bath Asparagus (Spiked Star of Bethlehem) a protected species, but you are allowed to take a few delicious shoots.
Please TEXT the walk leader to book a place.
Walking poles are very useful, and we will have a lunch/coffee break at Cleave Wood if dry, or Hinton Church if wet.
