This varied walk will take in some lovely autumnal colours in the beechwoods of Wendover Woods. We follow 'The Ridgeway' to start with; later on after our 2nd ascent, we skirt passed an Iron Age Hillfort, then reach the highest point in The Chilterns. Hopefully we'll see beautiful views through gaps in the trees across the Vale of Aylesbury. After descending from the woods we pass through a peaceful churchyard with many RAF memorial graves from WW2. Then we conclude with an easy, tranquil walk along the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal into Wendover. Picnic lunch will be close to the Cafe on the summit area of Wendover woods with time to buy drinks/light snacks and use the toilets.
Toilets available at Wendover Station, Cafe and in the town of Wendover.
Walking poles may be helpful, if you normally use them, as one of the descents may be a little narrow and uneven. Generally, most of the tracks/paths are very good, but after wet conditions some woodland areas may be muddy.
Although there is a cafe, it does get very busy with families at weekends so best bring a picnic lunch.
