The 'Chiltern Heritage Trail' was established in 2000 as a Millenium Project by Chiltern District Council. It forms a local, long distance walk to link up all the towns and villages across the parishes in the District, forming a winding circular of 52 miles, starting and finishing in Chesham. West London Ramblers have divided the route into 6 walks that link with the Metropolitan/Chiltern line Stations, to be walked once a month on a Wednesday, from now to November.
This 1st Section from Chesham Station walks out of Chesham via the Market Sq. to join the start of the Chess Valley route, but soon ascends to Chesham Bois, before it later descends back down into some of the best scenery along the Chess Valley, from Latimer to Mill Farm. The route then ascends fairly steeply up to Chenies, passing the church and Grade 1 listed Chenies Manor, visited by Henry Vlll and Queen Elizabeth l on many occasions. From Chenies, we walk a section of the Heritage trail that is shared with the 'The Chiltern Way' to Chorleywood West, to finish along a short road link to Chorleywood Station. Bring a picnic lunch and there will hopefully be a pub stop in Chenies later in the walk.
Travel using Metropolitan line to Chesham Station and meet outside the station entrance in time for 10.30 start. Part of journey could be taken by Chiltern line to Chalfont & Latimer, then change onto Met line to Chesham.
Picnic lunch along route in Chess Valley.
Hopefully Pub stop in Chenies later after lunch and possible teastop in Chorleywood near to station at finish.
Very scenic route with 3 ascents up Chess Valley slopes.
