A surprisingly rural walk all within TFL travel zone from Farnborough through High Elms Country Park to Downe to look for orchids (we plan to spend 30 mins at Downe Bank) then visit Charles Darwin’s House (Down House is free for English Heritage members/£21.80 non-members/£19.50 concessions – there is a discount if tickets booked on line in advance). Lunch at café at Down House or picnic. Alternatively, pub lunch and explore Downe village for those not wishing to visit Down House. Return walk through attractive countryside partly on the London Loop.
Please note that this walk has a bus journey of approx. 15 mins on a frequent service at both the start and end of the walk. This walk is in the North Downs so expect some hills (978 feet/298m height gain), stiles and uneven paths/mud.
