From the Selwyn Hall car park we cross the A4 and walk through the village to the footpath that takes us via the woods up towards Wadswick Common. Approaching the common we walk along Wyres Lane which was one of the sites where the Hazelbury Hoard was recently found.
From here we go down the main drive and see before us the imposing 14th C Hazelbury Manor which has just been sold.
From the manor we take a footpath and find ourselves with a wonderful view looking down over the village of Box. We continue through Box Woods and drop down Quarry Hill taking a very steep footpath through a field adjacent to Brunel's Box Tunnel which brings us back to the A4. Crossing the main road we take the footpath towards Drewetts Mill, cross the bridge and return along the other side of the Bybrook river. Returning to the carpark we pass Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios on the banks of the river. This is a short walk with a slow to moderate pace. There is one steady climb at the beginning, then a steep path and a steep descent part way through. Paths can be slippery and muddy if we have had rain so pleased come prepared - walking poles are recommended.
Please bring a mid morning snack.
