Overview

We have in the past walked from Chippenham to Lacock to the east of the Avon, using the X34 bus one way and following the Wilts & Berks Canal back. This walk follows the western side of the river, going by way of Reybridge, the Lackham Estate and the well-hidden Rowden Manor.  On reaching Chippenham through public open spaces, and with only 4 miles on the clock, we will continue along the River Avon through  Monkton Park to reach ‘Olde Chippenham’  and St Andrew’s Church plus the historic (sic) Bus Station.  I will be on the 09:32 bus from Trowbridge, 09:59 from Melksham and will disembark at the George in Lacock at 10:10. Buses back are every 30 minutes. You could, of course, drive to Lacock and do the walk and bus back to Lacock. The landscape is very average so not the usual high class ‘vilewalk’,  but this will be new to most of you so it ticks a box. The George has a postcode of SN15 2LH. Bring a snack or pick-up something delicious from the Lacock Bakery.
