Moderately paced walk in attractive Wealden countryside. The route takes us through a mix of woodland, open fields, parkland, quiet lanes/footpaths, orchards and alongside the Eden River. We pass historic houses and the picturesque village of Penshurst on our way.
From Leigh we are quickly into the Penshurst Place Estate to enjoy the parkland and a fine view of Penshurst Castle followed by a brief stop at the Porcupine Pantry Cafe and a glimpse of the castle gardens before coming into the lovely village of Penshurst with its fascinating old houses and interesting church. After which, we pass by an orchard, head through woodland and a short stretch on the Eden Valley Path, before making our way up to Hoath Corner for our refreshment stop at the characterful Rock Inn. From here we turn in the direction of Penshurst Station to complete the walk via Harden Vineyard and Wellers Town, then crossing the Eden River on the Vexour Bridge to finish on low lying fields adjacent to the river.
