Overview

The walk takes us up the back of Martinsell Hill along a relatively gentle ascending path which skirts the hill fort.  We then walk along the top of the ridge with far reaching views, before descending to the Kennet and Avon Canal at Milkhouse Water.  We follow the K&A to Wootton Rivers and after visiting the church, follow an ascending bridleway gently up to Mud Lane.  We will pass the Green Man tree carving on our way back to the car park.  There are no stiles.

There may be livestock enroute and sticks may be useful as it may be muddy.  Chalk, in particular, can be slippery when wet.  Bring refreshments for one stop.  We will be back for lunch

Meet the leader at Clench Common car park. This is found approximately a mile off the A345. Travelling from Clench in the direction of Wootton Rivers, you will see a wood, close to the road, on you right and your left. Just after the trees turn right into the parking space. If you start to go down hill, you have missed it.
