We are the West London Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Passing Mortimer's old church, we cross fields to arrive at Calleva's amphitheatre, then walk between the walls of the old Roman city to arrive at Silchester for lunch. Please bring a picnic and only use the pub for drinks as we need to keep the lunch break to about 40 minutes to get the return train. Afternoon through forest (Englefield Estate), passing the old church at Padmore College to arrive at Aldermaston after crossing the Avon & Kennet Canal.
Trains from Paddington 8.46 (Elizabeth Line) stops Ealing Broadway 8.56 to arrive Reading 9.40. Change to Basingstoke line 10.07, arrives Mortimer 10.23. Alternative from Paddington 9.32 GWR arrives Reading 9.55 (not stopping at Ealing Broadway). Trains back from Aldermaston 16.25 and 17.25. Oyster card is valid to West Drayton and Freedom Pass to Reading on the Elizabeth Line. You will need to buy two single extension tickets as Mortimer and Aldermaston are on separate lines.
