We will meet at Chagford car park (on street parking may be possible) and head for the adjacent steep hills, Meldon Common and Nattadon Common, with their excellent views. There will be a variety of footpaths, bridleways and country lanes. After lunch, the going will be easier with a riverside section that’s part of the fondly remembered Two Moors Way.
Moderate (with some steep sections).
Chagford (chag = gorse) developed thanks to wool and tin, becoming a stannary town in 1305. Not surprisingly, the town and its surroundings are full of historical buildings and remains.
