Join us for a varied ramble from Amberley to Chichester, following parts of the South Downs Way, Monarch's Way and West Sussex Literary Trail (those of you who joined my prior walk will know there are very tenuous literary connections... so manage your expectations!)
The walk will be brisk (2.5-3 miles/hour) with a few steeper sections - and may be muddy (so you may want to wear gaiters and/or bring poles if you use them). While much of the walk is gently undulating, the walk is Strenuous on account of its length - please consider carefully your ability to complete the distance before joining.
From Amberley station, we follow the South Downs Way up onto a chalk escarpment, threading our way between Sussex villages and passing close by to the famous Goodwood racecourse. After lunch, we pick up the end of the West Sussex Literary Trail to reach Chichester, from where trains return to London.
We will stop for lunch overlooking a commanding view from the Trundle just after Goodwood racecourse - please bring a packed lunch. There are no toilets en-route but plenty of natural options should nature call.
At the end of the walk, for those that wish to stay on for a drink, there is an option to stop off at The Fountain pub close to Chichester station.
