Overview

The route takes us down through the pretty hamlet of Callstone Wellington, with its church and mill, and then up to the National Trust land of Cherhill Down and Oldbury Fort. We will stop for our snack at the top, by the Landsdowne Obelisk, with the Cherhill White Horse on the hillside nearby. A lovely walk through fields, along counry tracks and the Roman Road byway; very little actual road walking and no stiles. The ascent to the top of the Down is fairly gentle, but sustained (about a mile), and the route back is a mixture, some up, but mostlty down. Great views from the top.
