From Lordstones Country Park we head south through fields along Raisdale via Thwaites House, Staindale and Raisdale Mill to Chop Gate, crossing the road to reach William Beck Farm, and on to Seave Green after stopping for lunch overlooking Chop Gate. We re-cross the road and start a steady climb, meeting Cold Moor Lane. Here we turn northwards and walk up to the high point of Cold Moor, with good views to the west and east, across Raisdale and Bilsdale, before dropping down off the moor near Beak Hills. We continue northwards to meet the Cleveland Way but then turn off to follow the path under Kirby Bank and back to Lordstones.
Please note the 09:45 start, which is just to make sure we are back in plenty of time for refreshments afterwards in the cafe at Lordstones.
There are quite a few stiles, some not in the best of repair. Going is generally good, but may be muddy or wet underfoot in places. There is one awkward but short and possibly muddy downslope just before the Raisdale Mill Plantation, so a pole would be advisable. In Chop Gate we go past the Village Hall where toilets should be available.
