This 7.5 mile circular walk from Swainby begins with a gradual ascent out of the village up onto the Cleveland Way and a forest track. We then head over fields with views into Scugdale and along to Harfa House. Dropping down through woods to Scugdale Beck over a footbridge, we pick up a back lane to Huthwaite Green. From a field top we hope to enjoy good views before picking up a track through the forest until we descend onto the lane to High Farm. A steep climb takes us up through Whorl Hill - which, if we're lucky will be carpeted in bluebells and the forest track eventually descends down to further fields until we reach the medieval Church of the Holy Cross and Castle at Whorlton. A road walk returns us to Swainby.
This walk involves a number of ascents and descents including one steep ascent and a number of stiles. The terrain is wet and muddy in places and poles are recommended.
