London offers numerous statues and plaques dedicated to women, from historical figures like suffragettes and activists (Millicent Fawcett and Emmeline Pankhurst), healthcare pioneers (Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole), war heroes (Noor Inayat Khan, Edith Cavell, Elizabeth Szabo) literary artist (Agatha Christie, Virginia Woolf), warriors (Boudicca) etc.
To mark the International Women’s Day earlier in the month (March 8th), please join me in an urban walk through Central London, visiting some of these statues and plaques and honouring the lives and achievements of just a few incredible women.
Men are very welcomed on the walk too!
The walk will start at Russell Square Underground station and be at a leisurely pace as we will have brief stops to share some interesting stories of some of the amazing history making / changing women.
We will aim to finish by around 3pm at Waterloo station. However, as we will be having regular stops and be walking through busy central London streets , it is difficult to assess exact timing. There will be plenty of opportunities to drop out with accessible public transport options along the route.
We will have a lunch stop but please bring refreshments/lunch as it can get busy in Central London.
