Overview

A typical countryside winter walk, across fields, through woods, on quiet backroads and along rivers.  We visit the villages of Wellow, Hinton Charterhouse and Norton St Philip, and cross between Somerset and Wiltshire.  Lots of hills, but generally gradual, but this walk is fairly strenuous by virtue of the length and height gained.

Lovely countryside, and we should see plenty of wildlife, such as winter thrushes, deer and hares.  We also visit the Cleave Wood nature reserve, which is a quiet and secluded area of woodland, rarely visited.

There is likely to be mud, so gaiters and walking poles are strongly advised.  We can hope for good weather but should prepare for the opposite.

A lunch stop at Norton St Philip, and two coffee/snack stops
