Overview

A circular walk from Burrator Quarry car park (free) along the southern end of Burrator reservoir, via Sheepstor and up over Ring Moor Down where there are cairns and a stone circle. Heading south the track then skirts Brisworthy and the Shaugh Lake China Clay Works (China Clay is an important component of fine china – porcelain). The route then goes westwards over Saddlesborough (Bronze Age Saddlesborough Reave is famous); the local areas were extensively excavated in the 1980s ahead of China Clay quarrying).  We return through Shaugh Prior, Cadover Bridge, and across the prehistoric landscape of Wigford Down, and use lanes back to the car park, probably stopping at The Royal Oak Inn, Meavy, to see the ancient oak tree.
