Overview

This is a varied circular walk through the Culm Valley and the Blackdown Hills AONB.  We walk through woodland and open commons.  In good weather we shall hopefully have some great views, with several points of interest along the way.  The walk begins in Culmstock, deep in the Culm Valley and on the edge of the Blackdown Hills.  Heading northeast we shall cross briefly into Somerset where the route ascends the distinctive circular hill crowned by the Wellington Monument.  We return through Black Down Common and on to Culmstock Beacon. From here, a steep descent leads back down to the River Culm, which is followed gently back into Culmstock, completing the circuit.
