Please note 10am start.
The walk will visit Dunnabridge Pound, one of Dartmoor’s two medieval drift pounds, for horses and cattle illegally grazing the east, south and west quarters of the Moor, the walls which were built on a prehistoric site. Built into the wall is the judge’s chair, a stone bench, with sides and a roof, probably used by the pound keeper. We will follow the Postbridge to Dunnabridge track, before we ascend the prominent Bellever Tor with its trig point. We return using moorland paths below Laughter Tor, inspecting on our way the impressive menhir, ‘Laughter Man’, and the nearby Bronze Age stone rows.
We will probably visit a pub/café after the walk.
Please book with John Howell for the walk and please state if interested in food after the walk.
In association with Dartmoor Preservation Association.
If you would like to join this walk, please book with the leader, preferably by email, and state if interested in food after the walk.
