Overview

This is a classic Dartmoor circular walk  starting from Widecombe in the Moor.  We climb steadily onto the open moor, following the broad ridge of Hamel Down with expansive views across central Dartmoor.  The route passes Hameldown Tor and Hameldown Beacon before continuing north to Hameldown Tor trig point.  From here the walk descends towards Jay’s Grave, before heading towards Bowerman’s Nose. The final section crosses open moorland to Hound Tor before a long descent along lanes and tracks back into Widecombe.
