Parking in layby on A169 Pickering to Whitby road on the right about quarter of a mile after the Lockton turn off. from the car park we walk on the verge 40mts go over the stile and into the old quarry walking northwards towards the farm, we join a long steady track upwards to the old wives way track cross over and down to Newgate foot farm. continue up and on to the standing stones and down following the valley track (Thompsons Rigg). After the farm buildings we cross small shallow ford. We turn right at the Tee junction and up into Cross Cliff wood incline Lunch at the top. We now are on the tabular hills level walking eventually cutting off onto Grime moor track passing by high house farm and onto David lane after 200yards a right turn (white Dale) over the stile back on the road verge and we are back to our cars in the layby.
Summary
There are eight stiles in good order that we will encounter and a couple steep ascents and descent, we will cross one small ford. We may have a bit of heather to walk over as the path disappeared for about 100mtrs. also we may encounter the barking tethered dogs at high house farm.
lastly Very little mud boots we reasonably mud free, but we do have stiles. we will have excellent long distance views and at lunch admire the views whilst sat on the benches.
