Overview

We will start from the large car park at Webbers Post before climbing steeply to Dunkery Beacon, the highest place on Exmoor and indeed Somerset. We will have a break here before heading onwards to the remote church at Stoke Pero for lunch, before heading back to the start point via Horner Woods. This is a scenic wooded valley but will involve further steep climbs back up to the car park. I have graded this walk as strenuous due to the steep ascents (especially if weather isn't so good on the day!) but we can take our time as we go.

Webber's Post car park. From Exeter, I would recommend driving up to Wheddon Cross before taking the road towards Exford and then taking a right hand turn about a mile down the road signposted to Dunkery Beacon. You will go past Dunkery Beacon and down the other side, you can then take a sharp turn to the left at the next junction and the car park is on the right hand side. Map: OL9.
