Overview

A mixture of field and moorland paths and tracks, including sections of the Esk Valley Way. This walk is just over 7 miles in length and involves 1250 feet of ascent and descent, divided into 4 sections. There is a small number of stiles, all in good condition.

The route sets off from the car park on the minor road near Rigg End, South West of Castleton. It joins the Esk Valley Way over Westerdale Moor and then goes through Westerdale, before going up the valley via Broadgate Farm to Dale Head. After crossing the road, the route descends in to Danby Dale to rejoin the Esk Valley Way, before climbing back up to the car park.
