A steady-paced walk along the Grand Union Canal. Walking along the often-busy canal towpath, we will have the opportunity to 'gongoozle' at the narrowboats in all their colours and shapes, against the background of industrial estates, railway lines and modern-day residential buildings. There will also be the chance to view the brutalist style of Goldfinger's Trellick Building. Other than seeing Paddington Bear, we will be unlucky to see a beaver!
There are exit points to Portobello Market, Ladbroke Grove,Kensal Green Cemetary (one of the London Seven), Wembley and Alperton.
The towpath section will be partially shaded but there are some open stretches. The towpath does narrow at certain points so single-file walking will be needed.
There will be a lunch-stop where there is a large Sainsbury's with a Cafe Costa, otherwise, bring your own lunch. There is an option to visit a pub at the end of the walk, not far from Greenford Tube Station.
Toilets available at Paddington Station located on the lower level, near to the main national rail concourse (you will walk past them if you are coming from Bakerloo/Elizabeth Lines direction, at the bottom of the escalators which takes you up to the Hammersmith & City line). Also at two Sainsbury's along the canal route.
Start at Paddington Railway Station on Bakerloo Line, Elizabeth Line, Circle and District, Hammersmith and City Line.
Finish at Greenford Tube on Central line.
No booking required but please check status updates for any station closures, especially for drop-off exits.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
