Walking the St Swithun's way backwards, the first part, starting in Farnham and ending in Alton.
Swithun was Bishop of Winchester from 852 to his death in 863 CE. He is the Patron Saint of Hampshire, Winchester and rain.
We will walk through the back streets of Farnham to avoid the Saturday shoppers and then head out onto the fields and rolling countryside of Hampshire. There is some road walking, but mainly along paths and bridleways which at the time of the recce are all good, however there may be mud if it rains before the walk. There are several stiles, which are not all in good condition.
There are no toilets at Farnham station, so please use the toilets on the train. We will stop briefly in a park near the station where there are public toilets but only one for women and one for men.
Lunch will be at Bentley, there is park, a pub and a village shop which serves coffee etc.
We will end at Alton railway station where there are toilets and a cafe, which also is a station for the Watercress Line.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
