The walk passes through the village of Hambleden set in a beautiful valley between beech woods. This unspoiled village with Chlitern brick and flint cottages and old world shops, is the setting of many TV series and films. In addition notable as the birthplace of Lord Cardigan who led the Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimea War. Next the walk passes through the villages of Skirmett, Fingest and Turville (setting of the fictional Dibley village) and Southend built on a common where clay was quarried for bricklaying. There are some steep and more gently ascents and descents. It's the Chilterns, expect natural beauty...
Chilterns National Landscape (formerly the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) takes in a variety of ancient woodlands, chalk grasslands and historic villages. Covering parts of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. The Chiltern Way is a 177 mile circular route, with various extensions, highlighting the best features of the area.
No exit points. Dress suitably for the Chilterns, with a mind to the weather and wear good walking shoes. Please bring a packed lunch.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as the weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
