A pleasant walk down the Test Valley along the upper reaches of the River Test, a world famous trout stream. We will pass the unusual and very small St Nicholas church in the village of Freefolk after lunch and hopefully will be able to have a quick look inside.
Lunch will be about half way through the walk in Freefolk. There is some open ground for eating packed lunches and a nearby churchyard and/or a pub the Watership Down Inn. The pub serves food but please bring a packed lunch as there may not be time to order more than a drink or snack.
The walk is mostly flat. There is a fairly steep climb along the road leading to Whitchurch station at the end but nothing too arduous.
There are no toilets at Overton or Whitchurch stations. Please use toilets on the train.
There are toilets in the pub at lunchtime for those buying a drink.
Travel: Take the 9.50 train from London Waterloo, 9.57 from Clapham Junction arriving at Overton at 10.48.
Please buy a return to Whitchurch (Hampshire).
Return trains at 14 minutes past the hour.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on several factors such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
