Overview

A day out, walking in the Chilterns...

Leaving the station we walk through Wycombe Marsh (now an urban area) until we reach Loudwater, where we rejoin the Chiltern Way. The village of Loudwater harnessed water power to drive local factories in the industrial revolution. We cross Flackwell Heath plateau, pass through Warren Wood (where there are the remains of a medieval earthwork) and the villages of Marlow Bottom, Marlow Common and Davenport. The treat of the day being the unspoiled village of Hambledon with classic Chiltern red brick and flint homes. Here we have a short afternoon break to enable exploration. This is a village lost in the mists of time and used for many TV dramas and Films.

There are some steep ascents and descents, plus short sections of muddy path so walking poles are recommended.

It's the Chilterns, expect natural beauty...

The Chilterns National Landscape (formerly the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) takes in a variety of ancient woodlands, chalk grasslands and historic villages. Covering parts of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. The Chiltern Way is a 177 mile circular route, with various extensions, highlighting the best features of the area.

No exit points. Dress suitably for the Chilterns, with a mind to the time of year, weather and wear good walking shoes. Please bring a packed lunch.

The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as the weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
