Join us for a brisk (2.5-3 miles/hour) gently undulating ramble from High Brooms to Tunbridge Wells via Speldhurst, Groombridge and the Spa Valley, following the route of the Tunbridge Wells Circular Walk even though we don’t quite circumnavigate the town.
Exiting High Brooms station, we pass a railway viaduct, through green fields, common land and ancient woodland before reaching the village of Speldhurst. We continue down to pass close by Groombridge Place with its picturesque moat and somewhat less picturesque and fragrant sewage farm. Undaunted and with noses held, we continue on along the route of the Spa Valley Railway, catching glimpses of steam trains before arriving in Tunbridge Wells and venturing along the Georgian Pantiles where numerous cafes and pubs offer some light refreshment before taking the train home.
We will stop for lunch near Langton Green at about 1245 - please bring a packed lunch. Unfortunately there are no toilets.
At the end of the walk, for those that wish to stay on for a drink, there is an option to stop off at The Bedford pub close to Tunbridge Wells station.
No practical drop-out points (infrequent buses from Groombridge or expensive steam railway from Groombridge/High Brooms)
No booking required.
