Beginning from Claygate station, we go in search of the historic, fairytale, gothic Ruxley Towers before strolling through leafy, Claygate Common. We will cross the A3 (via a bridge) and continue our wander through Princes Coverts - a picturesque, dense forest in parts and an area that royals frequented, where they galloped and cavorted. We eventually leave Princes Coverts and cross the busy Leatherhead road. Passing through Ashtead Common, a national nature reserve, we shortly come out of the woods and enter a grassy, open meadow before finishing at Ashstead station. The woodland paths may be muddy and uneven in places - wear sensible footwear and bring poles if you use them. It is a reasonably flat walk with no real ascents.
